Combining 50 years of renovation
and construction expertise

Widbrook was started in 2007 when Ian and Mark combined their individual forces and talent to renovate and build high quality homes in and around Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.

Pulling on our own family experiences, each of our homes is designed in house to work for families allowing the home to adapt with the growth of a family.  We strive to improve on every build and listen and act on customer feedback.

What makes us different:

Sustainability is the underpinning goal for each of our homes, designing eco houses to the Code for Sustainable Homes, wherever possible, and implement energy-saving measures to save you money. We are now working towards producing homes to Passiv Haus standard.

New build homes typically include

  • Sustainable timber frames
  • Integrated solar panels
  • Under floor heating throughout
  • Heat pumps
  • High levels of air tightness with mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR)
  • Quality brand bathrooms and kitchens
  • Carpets and flooring throughout
  • Fully landscaped gardens
Mark Borthwick MCIAT
Director

Mark started his career in an Architect’s office but a downturn in the construction industry led to a very different path into Telecommunications. This provided large scale project financial control, Project and man Management as well as site Health and Safety skills. 2007 saw a return to the built environment and Mark is now a member of the Chartered institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT). Mark is also a Certified Passive House Designer.

Mark’s role is to design and manage the builds pulling on his own family experiences to shape the design of the houses Widbrook build.

When he’s not on site or being the family man, Mark will either be exploring the countryside on his bike or around classic cars.

Ian James
Director

Ian started his career in property by renovating small houses to rent out, working on the houses himself before growing the business to include others.

The process of making something beautiful from something run down has always been his passion. Ian spends his time searching for plots and unloved properties ready to turn into beautiful homes for future generations to live in, drawing on his many years of experience and family values to make homes that work for the modern family.

He spends his free time being a taxi driver for his children or playing the saxophone in shows locally.
